On the night of the Diwali new moon (amavasya) festival, 2nd to 3rd November 2024, samadhi came upon me once again. This experience was by far the longest yet, lasting a few hours according to my calculations. Before I closed my eyes to meditate, it was around 11 pm of 2nd November, and within several minutes, I went into Kevala Kumbhaka, followed by samadhi.

I drifted in and out of that state before finally resurfacing and, as I would often do to document these experiences, took a screenshot of my phone. The time was 2:42 am on 3rd November 2024, Sunday. It was a good over three hours of absorption but it felt so quick in my body.

When I rose for my daily practice that day, I noticed our Peace Lily had blossomed with two new buds. It felt like a beautiful coincidence, as this graceful plant symbolises enlightenment and spiritual growth. Its flowers rise from the dark soil, reaching toward the light—a reminder of transformation and renewal. The Peace Lily also lasts for a long time, embodying resilience and strength.

Known for purifying the air, it clears toxins and brings a sense of peace to any space, which is why it’s often kept indoors to promote healing and positive energy.

Throughout my journey, I’ve experienced countless absorptions—each one unique, with the earliest ones being the most intense and profoundly magical. Over time, they’ve become less frequent, but with each occurrence, I find myself gaining more control over the energy within. I believe this is the essence of samadhi: to truly understand the science behind it, one must develop mastery over the flow of energy itself.

I’ve shared many teachings on samadhi, so I’ll keep this post focused on something close to my heart: my passion to growing my practice of yoga. By expanding my understanding and experience, I can guide my students meaningfully and safely. As I grow, so do they — and seeing their journey grow, for me, is my greatest accomplishment. This mutual growth is my true purpose and joy.

I dedicate this profound experience to the auspicious celebration of Diwali, a time to honour light over darkness, knowledge over ignorance, and liberation over bondage. I am profoundly grateful for the gift of experiencing our pure, natural state, and I am committed to sharing this beautiful reality through my insights and teachings. This journey inspires me to keep helping you to reconnect with your inner light and freedom.

Happy Diwali.
