The techniques of Hatha Yoga are specifically designed to awaken the dormant centres in the body and brain. Each asana (pose) is performed to release the body’s inertia (tama). The breath, acting as an invisible force, purifies the sponge-like channels within the body, enhances nerve impulses, and stimulates the vital organs to function beyond their usual automatic capacity.
However, the process of subtle awakening is not as simple as merely moving the body. It is essential to follow the proper sequence of physical development. This typically begins at the base of the spine and works upwards, focusing on maximising our potential by developing muscles and bones through exercises such as flexion, hip openers, and strengthening the lower body.
Why is Progression Crucial?
One technique here and there will never be sufficient. The body must evolve entirely, in all possible motions, directions, and dimensions.
Mastering this stage can take years. Only once this foundation is firmly established can the student begin to work on the higher systems. Unfortunately, this hard truth is often overlooked or ignored.
Awakening the kundalini shakti is indeed possible, and there are techniques available that promise to do this quickly with minimal physical effort. However, it is important to proceed slowly and carefully to avoid the harmful side effects of prematurely awakening the kundalini.
The body’s energy system needs to be strong enough to handle the increased flow of energy and must learn how to direct this force into the sushumna nadi (the central energy channel). There are specific centres in the body that regulate this power, such as the bandhas and chakras. Therefore, it is crucial to properly prepare and align these inner dimensions before any awakening occurs.
My hope is that through this lecture and platform, I can support you on your journey. Everything I share comes from my personal practice, and I am grateful that, despite my lack of formal training and external guidance, I have been able to navigate these challenges safely and with clarity.
