Easter Sadhana – The OM Mantra // Open Lesson

Om Mantra Practice

Let us culminate our weeklong Sadhana practice with 108 OM mantra repetitions. You can use your mala to energise and cleanse its seeds. Happy Easter Sunday!

During creation and passing, there exists only vibration and sound. Throughout my numerous experiences with Samadhi, the sound of OM fills the entire experience. I’ve previously recounted in my writings that when the trance peaks, the soul is abruptly drawn to the heart’s space, to be enveloped by the echoing sound of OM. The imagery within this profound dimension is entirely pitch black.

Practising mantra and japa can boost our inner energies, helping hidden thoughts, feelings, and potentials emerge. During chanting, the vibration we emit awaken specific brain centres which in turn unblock certain chakras in the spine’s nerve ganglia. As meditation activates the spine, these energy points release powerful pranic force.

Chanting the Om could be done after the mudra (or bandhas) and before stillness. As a separate pre-meditation technique, chant the Om in siddhasana or siddhi yoni asana. Alternative asanas are the sukhasana, ardha padmasana, svadstikasana and padmasana.

  1. Begin by taking a deep and calm inhalation. Do not strain.
  2. Relax throughout the practice. This shall help you find your voice.
  3. Next, chant the OM mantra. Initiate the sound smoothly from the front of the mouth, feeling the vibration touch the hard palate and the base of the brain.
  4. Guide the sound vibration towards the rear of the hard palate, sensing gentle vibrations in the midbrain.
  5. Gently hum the “mmm…” sound, vibrating the lips softly. The mantra OM is pronounced with a very slight sounding ‘m’ or the sound ‘m’ is totally omitted if the mantra is said longer as in a group chanting.
  6. Feel the vibrations resonate throughout the brain. You will experience higher vibrations in the temple and frontal part of the brain.
